On the way back to Raleigh NC, looked on Yelp for lunch and found. Chris's drive in. They have the article from where they were featured in Our State magazine in the best burger edition. We didn't get the burger. I got the Rollie Chili hotdog. It is a foot long with a side (I chose onion rings). He got the grilled ham and cheese and fries.
It is a true hole in the wall. Don't expect a lot of the decor. Remember, CASH ONLY! But the food is good, and the staff is super friendly. So if you are like us and like to enjoy the flavor of a town, visit Chris' drive in and enjoy the diner fare! -

Don't even waste your time here when you have Johnson's and Crossroads Grill!!!!
This place is not clean. Service is a 4 out of 10. Burger are boring and taste weird. Waitresses are not the friendliest.
Cash only, too. -

I had the cheeseburger with mustard and added chili and onions. It was delicious and greasy, and the Velveeta went very well as a choice of "cheese". My husband got the rollie burger (comes with mustard and slaw) and a side of chili. I would have gotten this restaurant a higher rating had i not tasted his burger. It was very under seasoned and so was the chili (no salt at all ). What made my burger delicious was the Velveeta all along. Service was good, place very typical of a small NC town. Very reasonably priced. Cash only.

This could have been a 4 star rating, but is only a 3 for a very important reason which I will discuss later. This is a classic hole in the wall burger joint--so, yes, it looks a little rundown, but that is part of its charm. The staff was polite, helpful, and highly attentive. The burger was fresh, hot, and excellent but had a little too much cheese on it. The fries were very good, as was the lemon pie. This all adds up to a 4 star rating, right? Yes, but for the fact that not one, not two, but THREE of the servers were eating their lunch in the food service area. I'm not talking about sneaking a bite of something, which is still just as much of a violation, but I'm talking about eating a sandwich and onion rings. One of the servers even came out to clean tables and offer refills with her mouth so full of food that she looked like a chipmunk. I'm not exaggerating. This is a violation of 2-401.11 in the NC Food Code Manual released by the NC Department of Health and Human Services. Yes, I looked it up. But if that doesn't bother you, it's worth a visit.

The food here is basic and good, it's what you are expecting when you go into a small place like this. The service was friendly and fast, and the prices are very reasonable. I would eat here again if I was in the area, I wish we could do half stars because I would give it a 3.5 stars. The restaurant is old and getting a little run down with decor needing to be fixed, with the interior fixed I would give it a 4 star rating. I definitely recommend if you want some good traditional drive-in food.
